Keaton Report March 26 27

Trout are in recovery as evidenced by my trips Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Started with catching bait Sunday in miserable weather and Gulf water temps at 58 –59 degrees. Monday Morning saw 59 again and it was slow at least for keepers and my charter from Indiana Father and daughter team managed 6 keeper trout with 20 plus shorts. we caught our fish on live pinfish under Back Bay Thunders in 3.5 – 4.5 feet of water. Try as I might we couldn’t catch a fish in less than 3.5 feet. Tuesday, I had Don Garner and his son-in-law Justin ( oops on last name) originally from Paducah Kentucky now residing in Tennessee and we caught our limit of ten trout releasing number ten a 24” sow ( Don) as we had a 22.5 ” trout in the box already. We caught two of our keepers on plugs, two on Assassin Stinky Pink 5” shads and the balance on live pinfish under Back Bays from 3.5 – 4.5 feet of water. the water temp made it to 65 late in the day.

Wednesday I had my pal Bert Deener of Waycross, Ga. out and we fished artificials only and landed 37 trout( Bert counts) with 17 shorts and 20 keepers. We caught three on plugs and the balance on Assassin %’ most on Stinky Pink but quite a few nice ones on Panhandle Moon and Butt Naked also helped us out. Try as I did, we couldn’t catch a fish in under 4.0 feet and none over 5.0. We also caught three reds to 29” keeping only one a 24” redfish which ate an Intruder Hex Spoon by Precision tackle. We also caught on of the keeper reds on Bert’s redfish spinnerbait. Bert makes a variety of freshwater and saltwater fishing lures . Check him out at Bert’s Jigs and Things on Facebook.

The Gulf was 69 degrees late Wednesday afternoon so this weekend should be “off the chain” as the kids say......I say GREAT!
